Synopsis
Across the North, the legacy of the Industrial Revolution is being recast in faded brick and glittering plate glass. Its old mills and factories are now the best addresses in town. The canals are places of leisure, not labour. It's easy to forget the people who made these towns what they are, and whose lives we can barelyy imagine.
Narrow Windows, Narrow Lives recreates everyday life for the workers in factories, the bargemen, the coalminers, metal workers, nevvies adn glassblowers, using first-hand accounts and contemporary documents. It depicts the shocking state of the newly industrialised North and sketches the fascinating stories of those who lived through it.
