First World War
The First World War Centenary anniversaries in 2014-2018 represent a unique moment in history. The Great War engulfed the world in total and devastating warfare with loss of life on a scale unimaginable. In 2014 and the following years there will be international events commemorating and honouring the experience of those men and women whose lives were changed forever by the war. In Great Britain, there will be a host of events and projects to mark the experience on both a national and community level. As the UK's leading local and specialist history publisher, The History Press is working alongside many of these projects and with a wealth of experts to support the commemorations. We are passionate that our publishing, both print and digital, should encapsulate the First World War as experienced rather than imagined, and we will focus not only on the important military events, but also on the people who lived through them. From the art and objects that bore witness to the war to the women of war at home and on the frontline; we will look at every aspect of the war years.
